No, its not for you Mollie ;-)

Learning a few lead/blues tabs and was wondering if there is a correct
fingering "protocol"?
Do you use set fingers for set notes or go with whats comfortable,
for instance

E-------5-7-----7-|-8-----8-2-----2-|-0---------0-----|-----------------|
B-----5-----5-----|---5-------3-----|---1---1-----1---|-0-1-1-----------|
G---5---------5---|-----5-------2---|-----2---------2-|-0-2-2-----------|
D-7-------6-------|-5-------4-------|-3---------------|-----------------|
A-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-2-0-0---0--/8-7-|
E-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|

what fingers for what notes in the above tab (can you guess what it is yet?)
or would you bar GBE strings and use other fingers around the bar?

cheers

I just use whats comfortable and what works.
You may find it easier to bar some parts (the 5th fret looking at the
snippet)
or you may find it easier not to.

I dont actually recognise the riff off hand - but if you are unsure have a
look on youtube and see how other people do it.

As long as you play the correct notes at the right time I dont really think
it matters how you get them :-)

I've never tried it to be honest.
This guy uses barres but he's possibly in a different key

this also seems to use a barre

and

so I guess I'd go with a barre? though if I found a barre too difficult then
I'd just do whatever it takes.

Damn...I could have given you loads of advice :P

Learning a few lead/blues tabs and was wondering if there is a correct
fingering "protocol"?
Do you use set fingers for set notes or go with whats comfortable,
for instance
E-------5-7-----7-|-8-----8-2-----2-|-0---------0-----|-----------------|
B-----5-----5-----|---5-------3-----|---1---1-----1---|-0-1-1-----------|
G---5---------5---|-----5-------2---|-----2---------2-|-0-2-2-----------|
D-7-------6-------|-5-------4-------|-3---------------|-----------------|
A-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-2-0-0---0--/8-7-|
E-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
what fingers for what notes in the above tab (can you guess what it is
yet?) or would you bar GBE strings and use other fingers around the bar?
cheers

I tend to use the one finger per fret style. In this instance your fingers
would each cover the frets 5-8 (1st finger on fret 5, 2nd finger fret 6 and
so on)and then move the whole hand down the neck and cover 1-4. this is a
good method for developing guitar skills and it minimizes twisted fingers.

It changes when you get higher up the neck because of fret spacing but for
this stuff, its ideal.

cheers all, will try both ways and see how i get on, i think the one finger
per fret sounds the best speed wise as i have to really concentrate on
getting bars spot on :-)

Same here, 1 finger per fret for 'that' tune, but for others the rule
can, and usually does, go out of the window. I've been using the
unrelaxed neck-gripping method for years now and doubt if I'll ever be
able to change! :-0
