Hi all

We have a new track up on Soundclick called Worlds Collide. A cool rock
track (if we do say so ourselves).

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=582828

I laid down most of this track with No66y's son DD doing a truly superb drum
track.

It would be appreciated if you would give us a bit of support and have a
listen.

Virtual Preserve is an online band from across the world who share ideas
across the interwebnet and somehow manage to make music!

Cheers guys and happy strumming

I love it, but then I'm a tad biased :-)

I've been getting some advice from the Cakewalk group and they have put me
onto one of the inbuilt programs into cakewalk sonar called v-vocal which is
a pitch corrector for vocals!! It's awesome, so i'm working on my vocals on
the track now and will repost the track onto soundclick with the vocals are
errr v-vocalled.

It feels like a cheat but it's what many professionals do apparently.

Yep, I've heard of a program called autotune
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto-Tune

which does a similar thing

I'm sure there are more pro vocalists using it than dont use it!

As I said the other day, do whatever you have to do to get to where you
wanna be.

let us know when the adjusted version is up.

cheers

Damn straight! ;)
Autotune is what most of the top studios/engineers use in protools and
other DAWs, and as you rightly point out, it's used on a majority of
the music produced nowdays, regardless of vocal talent.
A track on the last suga*abes had approx 60 (yes, sixty!) tracks of
vocals, each with it's own instance of autotune, and the engineer
couldn't understand why the protools rig was struggling! :)

In some ways thats kinda sad :-(
Are there *any* artists that dont use autotune I wonder?

60? good grief - That explains why they sound so dire live!
(I'm assuming that there isnt a "live" version of autotune)

I wonder how much correction Autotune gives? i.e. can you be really really
off target and
still sound good at them end of the day?

How are the drums played? it sounds like a pad kit triggering samples.
Hey, if you record it as midi you can quantize and tighten it up a bit
you know ;)

Spot on, they where done by no66y jnr on a yamaha DTXplorer kit:

we've never really looked into recording them as midi to be honest.
Maybe its something we should consider at some point.

cheers
